Description
Victoza (Liraglutide)
Victoza (Liraglutide) along with diet and exercise to lower blood sugar (glucose) in adults and children who are 10 years of age and older with type 2 diabetes mellitus and to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, or death in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus with known heart disease. It also protects your kidneys and reduces your risk of having a heart attack or stroke. This medicine may also help you lose weight and live longer. The injection is given under your skin and injected once a day at the same time, with or without food.
Always use a new needle for each injection and your healthcare provider can show you. Type 2 diabetes is a disease in which the pancreas does not make enough insulin to control the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood or when the body is unable to use insulin effectively. The active substance in Victoza, liraglutide, is an ‘incretin mimetic’. This means that it acts in the same way as incretins (hormones produced in the gut) by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in response to food. This helps with the control of blood glucose levels.
The best places to give the injection are your thighs, abdomen (tummy) or upper arm. You can use the same area if you choose a different injection site in that area. Don’t inject into stretch marks, skin that is sore, bruised, red, hard or scarred. Stop using Victoza Liraglutide drug® and get medical help with your doctor or pharmacist right away if you have any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat, problems breathing or swallowing, severe rash or itching, fainting or feeling dizzy, or a very rapid heartbeat.
